Ocean Environmental Change
Marine environments are rapidly changing as the ocean is uptaking most (> 90%) of heat accumulated by the global warming induced by the increased greenhouse gases like CO2 associated with human activity. In a warming world, marine ecosystems are experiencing significant changes and marine-related natural hazards are of increasingly devastating particularly in the coastal zone where many people live due to increasing seawater temperature and sea level rise. This research group aims at better understanding, diagnosing, and predicting marine environments and processes underlying the marine-related natural disasters, and conducts multidisciplinary research and education to relieve the damage and to develop the solutions for actively adapting the changed climate.
