Research Topic

Jeomshik’s research is focused on understanding carbon cycling, more specifically, biological carbon pump process in various oceanic environments including the polar regions, margins, and blue waters. His research has shown that the water in the deep ocean interior may not be ‘clear’ but is rather influenced by resuspended sediment particles, and this phenomenon of sediment resuspension and lateral particle transport is widespread in the ocean. His lab has capability to process various types of samples, including dissolved organic carbon, for measurements of radiocarbon content, and GC-FID and GC-MS for lipid biomarker analysis.
