History of SEES

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Seoul National University is the largest global research institute of Earth and Environmental Scieces in Korea.

    • 2006 Establishment of new system that consists of Earth System Science, Oceanography, and Atmospheric Science department(excluding Astronomy department)
    • 2000 Establishment of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (Earth System Science, Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, Astronomy)
  • 1990's
    • 1999 Receipt of application for admission to the School of Earth and Environmental Science (Earth System Science, Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, and Astronomy) separated from the School of Basic Sciences (Mathematical Science, Statistics, Computational Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
    • 1996 Receipt of application for admission to the School of Natural Sciences / Change of departmental name from Geological Science to Earth System Science
    • 1995 Receipt of application for admission to five faculties (Mathematical Science, Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, and Earth and Environmental Sciences), and two departments (Astronomy, Atmospheric Science)
    • 1994 Receipt of application for admission to the group of Geology-Oceanography for Geological Science and Oceanography departments

    • 1987 Change of departmental name from Meteorology to the Atmospheric Science
    • 1982 Change of the departmental name from Geology to Geological Science

    • 1975Relocation of the campus to Gwanak / Reorganization of the school system from the Science faculty, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to the College of Natural Sciences / Separation of department from Astronomy-Meteorology to Meteorology, the College of Natural Sciences

    • 1961Relocation of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to Dongsung campus
