Geohazards
Geological disasters such as those by earthquakes and volcanic activities can cause serious social damage. However, those hazard can be significantly mitigated by improving countermeasures and crises responses by means of quantifying damage predictions and preparedness based on accumulated data from long term monitoring. The participating professors specializing in geophysics, seismology, volcanology, and geology investigate the causes of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions through integration of tools and methodologies of different fields. They also develop damage prediction and monitoring technologies to lower the natural hazard and damage. It is also important for the research group to train professional human resources necessary for research related to geological disasters and reduction of hazards in each branch of society.
