우리 학부 정해진 교수님과 BK21 지구환경과학부사업단 유영두 박사님이 주도한 논문이 세계적 권위의 학술지인 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) 2012년 7월 18일자 온라인판에 출판되었습니다.
  
본 논문은 산호, 말미잘, 해파리, 조개, 고동, 원생동물 등 광범위한 해양생물에 공생하면서 막대한 영양분을 공급해 온 공생미세조류가 광합성뿐만 아니라 (식물성), 다른 생물들을 포식할 수 있는 성질(동물성)을 동시에 가지고 있고, 특히 질소가 부족한 산호초에서 포식을 통하여 대량 번식할 수 있다는 연구결과를 담고 있습니다.
